The mentoring session materials that follow target the key elements required for participants to effectively set and achieve goals. Wherever possible, they should be delivered flexibly within an appropriate cultural context that promotes their relevance.
They complement the Pirru Thangkuray Participant Workbook and include annotations that may be useful for mentors.
The activities can be used with groups of participants to promote discussion and sharing.
They are sequential, but are not required to be delivered in one block.
The concepts covered can be reinforced across mentor led cultural and personal development sessions.
Although some of the concepts may seem challenging (and jargonistic) it’s important that participants become familiar with them and build the capability to effectively apply them.
As with mentor led cultural and personal development sessions, each session should begin with a welcome and roll mark.
This should be followed by an opportunity for participants to set a goal, or review a current goal, before introducing an activity.
At the completion of each session a short evaluation should be undertaken to inform delivery of subsequent sessions.
It’s important that participants have fun and enjoy sharing their understanding and insights around developing the ability to set and achieve goals. A process that will contribute to building their self-efficacy, self-determination and self-regulation, leading to improved wellbeing and increased levels of achievement.
